Glider assisted payload delivery system project included launch of a payload from a aircraft which may be travelling at supersonic speeds. The system should be such that the payload including with the glider kit is folded and packed inside a canister. As the payload is launched from the aircraft the payload along with the folded glider have to come out of the canister. Thereby tail and wing of the glider have to be deployed in fraction of seconds and then the whole system of payload + glider kit have to travel certain (confidential) number of km before the payload is dropped.
This project was very unique as both the wing and tail fins were required to be folded in storage and once it is deployed from the aircraft all need to be deployed in fraction of second. Salient feature is that the wing in itself was weighing close to 200Kg and had huge inertia experiencing up to 4g loads during deployment and operation. The system was in compliance with MIL grade specifications.
